Teddy Katz, a Haifa University graduate student, interviewed
over 100 people - Arabs and Jews - for his masters thesis about what happened at
Tantura, one of the 553 coastal Palestinian villages destroyed in 1948 by the
new Israeli state. According to the eyewitnesses and participants Katz
interviewed, some 270-280 villagers were slaughtered in a massacre orchestrated
by the Alexandroni Brigade. Once Katz story prematurely went public, to the
chagrin of Katz, Haifa University tried to disassociate itself from their
graduate student and his thesis, although it had previously approved it and
recommended for honors. Subsequently, Haifa University turned on tenured
professor Ilan Pappe for defending Katz' thesis.

The
deployment of tanks against the nearly defenceless civilian resistance
fighters in Palestine is in itself uniquely Jewish. And unlike any other
armoured units on earth, the Jew tanks carry flechette shells*

soldiers began firing at him. Another young peace campaigner, Brian
Avery, is lucky to be alive after a burst of machine gun fire ripped
off half his face. He now lies in hospital with horrific scars
barely able to talk. The Israelis are cracking down on foreigners
entering the Gaza Strip.

West Bank: Israeli settlements
Since 1967, Israel has pursued a policy of building settlements on the
West Bank.
These areas of the West Bank are linked by Israeli controlled roads not accessible to Palestine people.
There are also large tracts of Israeli reserved land with military areas or 'nature reserves' labels applied by the occupying forces.
West Bank: US Israel checkpoints
Occupation military force checkpoints on West Bank roads allow Israel to monitor and control travel in much of the West Bank allowing Israel settlers only to travel on specially built high-speed roads.

The Palestine News Network reported on Tuesday evening that Israeli bulldozers belonging to the Jerusalem Municipality demolished two Palestinian homes in Al Sawahra Al Sharqiyya town, east of Jerusalem after claiming the they were illegally constructed.
The houses belong to the Al Taweel family of nine, and the Diab family of eight. The residents were visiting relatives when their homes were bulldozed. The bulldozers also damaged a well used by the two families and some stone walls surrounding the properties.
The bulldozers also uprooted plants belonging to the two families, the Palestine News Network added.
Resident Mr. Al Taweel said that the two houses were constructed three years ago and that a court decision is pending regarding the demolishing orders, after the families appealed against them.
Al Taweel added that the families did not receive any eviction notices.
The house of Al Taweel was 60 square meters; he lived in it with his wife and seven children. Al Taweel has a heart disease and is living on social benefits.
Resident Amer Abu Diab is paralyzed and also living on social benefits. He lived in his house along with his wife and six children.
The Israeli Jerusalem Municipality has leveled seven Palestinian houses since the beginning of the year.
These violations are considered attempts to vacate the city from its native Palestinian residents, by forcing them out of its borders, especially when the Annexation Wall warping the city is completed.
It is important to understand that the settlements Israel constructs around Jerusalem are built on lands Israel has illegally annexed from the Palestinians. The Municipality calls the constructions “housing projects” although the lands belong to the Palestinian residents and the houses are only inhibited by settlers.
At least 4,170 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel, in the Palestinian territories, since September 29, 2000.

YAMOUN, West Bank, 19 March 2006 - Eight-year-old Akbar Zayed was on her way to have stitches removed from her chin when a barrage of Israeli Army bullets killed her on the spot, her family said yesterday.
The army opened an investigation into Akbar's killing, but the failed arrest raid left behind demolished homes, damaged cars and a family devastated by the death of a little girl.
The arrest raid in the West Bank village of Yamoun began like many others. Soldiers stormed the village of Yamoun late Friday, hunting down fugitives the army believed were holed up in a house. Troops cordoned off an area around the house, calling on the fugitives to surrender, the army said.
Suddenly, a taxi drove into the area, the army said. An initial military inquiry found that the troops called on the driver to stop, and when he failed to do so, soldiers fired at the car’s wheels.
But Kamal Zayed, the girl’s uncle who was driving the car, said three men ran toward the car and before he could turn off the engine they fired on him.
“I saw them behind the fence. There were more than 30 soldiers. The first bullet hit my niece. She got a bullet in the head from the very beginning,” Kamal recalled from his hospital bed, where he was being treated yesterday for gunshot wounds in his arm and leg. When the gunfire erupted, Kamal had just arrived at the clinic where his niece was to have her stitches removed.
“I started to yell … opened the door and started taking her out of the car to get her into the clinic. They (the soldiers) yelled at me to put her on the ground, started shooting in the air. I don’t know what they shot at.” Kamal said.
Later, Kamal said he was pulled out of the ambulance by soldiers and interrogated for more than two hours before being allowed to receive medical treatment.
Hundreds of people yesterday attended the young girl's funeral. Stopping frequently to calm himself down, Akbal Zayed’s father, Abder Zayed, said he had asked his brother to take the girl to the clinic because he did not want to be present when the doctors removed her stitches.
“They (the soldiers) have no idea how much I love her,” the father said, chain-smoking and wiping away his tears. “How can I enter the house and never see her again?”
Akbar was killed early on in the military operation. Later, the army partially destroyed a house, rounding up the family members and detaining them at an Israeli military base for several hours, residents said. The fugitives fled. “Until now, I don’t know why they did it to us, why they shot at us. It was clear that I was in the car just with a small girl,” the uncle, Kamal, said.

A nine-year-old Palestinian girl has been shot dead by Israeli occupation forces in the southern Gaza Strip.
Rania Aram died on Thursday after being hit by a bullet in the neck as she stood in front of her house in the Khan Yunus refugee camp.
Witnesses said the shot was fired from an army position on the outskirts of the illegal Jewish settlement, Gush Katif.
Some 23 Palestinian children have been killed since 30 September “ the majority receiving bullets in the chest, neck and head.
On 30 September, 15 Palestinian children were killed within hours of each other.
